Like most successful people, Huda Kattan started small. While holding down a job in finance that she hated, she launched a beauty blog in 2010, soon after which she quit her finance job. Kattan then started her Instagram account in 2012, followed by a beauty business selling false eyelashes in 2013.
Luck seemed to be on her side and in her case small got huge very quickly. The Dubai-based Kattan is now unchallenged in the makeup world. She has a breathtaking 20.7 million Instagram followers and has smartly leveraged that social media following to grow her business. She now offers liquid lipsticks, lip strobes, highlighter palette and eye shadows in addition to her lashes, which are available through herand Sephora, which has 11.9 million followers on Instagram.
Kattan was born to Iraqi parents. She attended college in Michigan where she studied finance, a career she quickly gave up to become a makeup artist. Kattan met her husband at college and they moved to Dubai in 2008, where she now happily resides with him and their daughter.
When asked about the way beauty is perceived in Dubai she said “Beauty in Dubai is on another level. I grew up in Tennessee. I loved to wear full glam. I used to want to wear flash lashes every single day. I remember wearing them once and someone was like, “Are you wearing false lashes?” I felt embarrassed. In the U.S., it’s perceived as though you’re trying too hard.
In Dubai, people respect you if you wear lashes to the grocery store. I’ve been at the gym at 5 in the morning and seen full glam, which, I think working out with your full makeup is just crazy. But it’s more over the top here. Middle Eastern women have very strong features, and makeup tends to accentuate those features really well without looking like too much.”
She says “I took beauty so seriously before, and I do still, but not in a way where I can’t have fun with it. I’m passionate to learn more, passionate to know how we can change people’s lives by giving them one tip. But when it comes to the look, it should be fun. You should just be like, “Yeah, I’m a cake face — so what?”
It is said that she makes an astonishing AED 66,000 with each instagram post. Huda Kattan has changed a lot over the years and that simply proves that you CAN be the best version of yourself. She never feels shy to talk about her surgeries, fillers etc. unlike other public figures. She is extremely humble, down to earth and truly inspirational. She is on the Internet’s most fascinating people’s list

One of those days when you can’t wait to get a new post off your chest..you can’t wait to get it all out..your feet are restless and your fingers are tingly lol. Yes, you guessed it right! That’s the day you have Huda Beauty on your mind 😀 With the Diva’s new palette launch at Sephora with all those luscious shades to choose from, its hard not to write a review. So let’s begin!
As they say when Huda Kattan creates new products, the world notices. Raising the bar with her unique Textured Shadows, she’s created a palette of highly saturated mattes, chrome pressed pearls, and 3D metal shadows. The best thing is that you can build these colors up. No matter what the occasion, believe me this palette has you covered!
What’s in the palette and what is each of those gorgeous shades all about:
Dubai – a smoky bronze
Fling – a shimmering cranberry
24K – an extravagant gold
Rose Gold – a lust worthy rose gold
Trust Fund – a copper (interesting name for an eye shadow)
Blessed – a vintage gold
Angelic – pink with gold reflections
Moon Dust – a stellar gold illumination
Bossy – a maroonish clay
Flamingo – notice-me pink
Shy – a subtle dusty shade of pink
BAE – a cream-colored base shadow
Black Truffle – a very very dark wicked black
Suede – a smooth gray
Coco – a dark brown
Maneater – a callous, brutal shade of mulberry
Henna – a warm traditional reddish-brown
Sandalwood – an earthy tone
(Image courtesy: google.com) (Too precious to waste on swatches 😛 so i decided to pick an image that caters to different skin tones).
The shades are beautiful. Each shade is enough to last you many many occasions which is what we all want considering the amount we’ve spent on this one, I know many of you have been saving for this beauty. Also in some of her videos she has shown how you can create different nail colors using the palette and toping it off with a transparent nail paint to seal and lock in the color. This seems rather interesting and I would love to try it out. The best thing is that you don’t need two different palettes to create a certain look. I do believe Huda’s next one will bring in hues and shades of blue, green, purple etc. and they are going to be as pigmented as this one. Can’t wait!!!
Let me know how many of you got your hands on Huda’s debut palette.

Hey you gorgeous ladies! Dark circles are every woman’s worst nightmare. We are always looking for ways to minimize their appearance which means we are willing to try all kinda home remedies which work on some and don’t make any difference at all on some women leaving them disappointed. There are a gazillion concealers out there in the market and having tried many i somehow stick to the one and only Maybelline Age rewind. It is a very good concealer. It lightens and brightens areas that need concealing and brightening. The best part is that it’s light on the pocket.. It doesn’t last all day and needs another application after a few hours but its still worth it. I’d suggest use it with a good primer and you are good to go!
I would give it 3.5 out of 5
Let me know what you think.

Summer comes to an end! For parents its the beginning of their child’s academic year. As exciting as it is, it can be stressful. Of course we don’t want everything to be done at the very last minute so we made a checklist to help us accomplish it all before the first day!
Post your checklist on the fridge. That way its always infront of you and you won’t miss anything important. Make good use of sales (if any) and get everything ready!
Our little ones won’t be so little after a few years so let’s cherish the time when we can still get excited about their new class and first days! and yesss!!! Take lots of photos!!

Each year we think about celebrating our independence day with great fervor. We plan a lot of things and then there are others who plan to sleep the entire day. Some of us take this opportunity to tell the upcoming generation how we got this beautiful land while others spend the entire day watching television. We all are different in our own ways, we all take things differently and we all have our own ways of celebrating something. Speaking of celebration of course we can’t deny the fact that a lot has changed over the years, the good old days of decorating our houses in colors of green and white, finding the biggest flag in the market, watching the fire works, bringing fire crackers, getting up in the morning to watch the glorious parade, singing patriotic songs, and the list is endless. There was something about the 14th of August that made us proud and happy. Times have changed, we have buried our good old traditions somewhere and adapted to the modern belief of less is more. Hence we think of not doing anything at all except maybe watch TV and sleep the whole day. Hats off to all those who still make an effort to keep the spirit alive! Truly!
I personally believe in keeping up with all that we have experienced over the years but also make a difference by doing something for my country. Planting a tree or two, eating with the poor, cleaning the neighborhood, educating poor children on my own etc.
Over the years, we have heard some of the greatest patriotic songs of our times. Let’s relive those and recall the good times. I thought maybe it would make us stop and think for a second how we spent our independence day this year and inspire us enough to spend it differently next year. Enjoy!
Dil Dil Pakistan
How can we forget Dil Dil Pakistan. The song we grew up with! Its original version is still as fresh as ever in our minds and nothing beats that!
Junoon brought forward a song that took the entire generation by storm. With glimpses of the 92 world cup in its video, it became an instant hit!
Ae Jawan by the young boys of Awaz shot in the breathtaking mountains of our country was a treat to watch.
Tera bina dil na lagay
Faakhir came out with his solo and touched hearts all over.
Ae Rah e Haq Ke Shaheedo
This years Coke Studio gave us goose bumps by bringing forward this masterpiece. A tribute to all martyrs who lost their lives for the beloved country.
Mersmerizing vocals of Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan never fail to win our hearts.
Main to daikhoo ga
Strings came out with this song in times of crisis and could relate to the common man and his problems. Became an instant hit!
Last years Coke Studio brought together different artists to relive this beauty.
There are of course many other beautiful patriotic songs out there. Do tell us your favorites! 🙂
The man that changed the world map. He fought to create the country we call our home, Pakistan. Muhammad Ali Jinnah known as the Quaid-e-azam took a dream, a hope, a thought and made it a reality.
Let’s make our Quaid proud. He gave us this beautiful homeland and its upto us to take care of it preserve its ideology. Let’s not forget the minorities are very much a part of each and every one of us. Live and let live!
Long live Pakistan!

They say, A father’s love is just as important to a child’s development as a mother’s, and sometimes more so. Father’s are unsung heroes! They work really hard to give us the life that we live and the person we become. Through all the joy, the love, the care…we want to take this day and cherish our fathers by telling them that they matter more than they know, that we love them more than we show. That their presence alone makes all the difference in our lives. The comfort, love, strength we get from our heroes is much more than we ever imagined and we are immensely proud to have each one of you in our lives. To all fathers out there! 🙂
As they say :
Today, we bring you the most heartfelt wishes to celebrate this day and to tell our fathers how much they mean to us.
Mayah Essam Khattak: (Daughter of Mr & Mrs. Essam Khattak)
Baba, You are my first best friend, my biggest advocate, my pillar of strengths, my partner in crime, my secret-keeper (specially from Ma) my hero, my king… What more could any girl want? Happy Father’s Day. Love, Mayah
Farwa Hussain Khan:
Today when we can see and hear that everyone is taking out time to wish all the amazing fathers in the world, I want to give a massive shoutout to my wonderful Father who has been my King since day one. Thank you Father for all the times you did not reach like a father but as my best friend. Thank you for always giving me shoulder to cry on. Thank you for letting me know my worth. And most of all thank you for raising me like a princess. Today, I want to tell you that I adore you and I love you but other than that I respect you so much because you’ve raised me in such a way which I’m sure that no other could, no other man can, no other man will. I will always be your little princess and you’ll always be my King.
My dad is a friend of mine, he is what any boy can ask for. He never lets me down and he does more then in his power to make me happy. I am the luckiest guy ever to have a father this amazing. Love him to bits
There have been ample times I doubted myself and was scared of failure but my dad has been a constant support through countless mood swings to just be okay with well i guess life in general.
Raza Ahmed Sukhera:
If I count the most impacting feelings of my life, my father holding my hand, garbing me upwards while climbing to the train when we were leaving from Lahore I was hardly 5 or 6 years old I guess. Then one day we both were sitting at tube well in-front of our home and I can still feel the sound of water pumping out along-with his voice inquiring how much semesters are left of my graduation. I felt like he was tired. There have been lot of ups and downs since he left, and now I feel that these ups and downs would have been less fatigued, less horrifying if he would have been with us. Always miss him, specially on little achievements, little appreciations I receive.
Aly Sher Khan:
“Thank you baba! For being a mountain in our lives. without you nothing would have been possible!”
Happy father’s day . God bless you with good health and long life .
Thank you for the comfort of knowing that whatever goes wrong, I have a dad who can fix it. Happy Father’s Day!!
I am what I am today because of you and I can’t thank you enough. You will always be my hero, my strength! Happy Father’s day!
My first love and my ideal and how I imagine all the men in the world to be as dedicated about their relationship as he has always been ! He always supported us in every walk of life, whether it was decisions concerning education or lifelong decision like getting married.
I love my Dad to the moon and back !!!
What Is A Dad?
A dad is someone who
wants to catch you before you fall
but instead picks you up,
brushes you off,
and lets you try again.
A dad is someone who
wants to keep you from making mistakes
but instead lets you find your own way,
even though his heart breaks in silence
when you get hurt.
A dad is someone who
holds you when you cry,
scolds you when you break the rules,
shines with pride when you succeed,
and has faith in you even when you fail…
Happy Father’s Day everyone!!

Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder, we say in present times it lies in the hands of a make up artist! Make up is an art indeed! If done the right way it can do wonders to help enhance your features and boost your self confidence. It’s not just about what you put on your face but how you put it is what makes all the difference. Skill, Technique, Application!
Meet Aleen Rehman, an exceptionally talented makeup artist from the capital of Pakistan. She talks to Wings & Strokes about her journey and passion for makeup, has some beneficial tips for summer make up, and offers great advice to the upcoming talent.
W&S: Tell us about yourself
Ms.Aleen: I am a beauty blogger/makeup artist. I love fashion and shopping. Beyond that, I adore my little dog who always brightens my mornings by waking me up. Lastly, I enjoy traveling and hope to visit Turkey in the near future.
W&S: Where is home?
Ms.Aleen: Islamabad, Pakistan
W&S: What inspired you to be a makeup artist?
Ms.Aleen: I got inspired by a lot of makeup artists around the world. Especially by seeing their makeup videos on Youtube. The list is endless but my original inspiration was Pixiwoo
W&S: What do you specialize in?
Ms.Aleen: Makeup and hairdos
W&S: Who are some people that have inspired you throughout your journey?
Ms.Aleen: My husband is the one who has inspired me the most. He has always been very supportive and helped me achieve my goals. He has inspired me to do more with my life, to follow my dreams and to be passionate about things that I never planned on doing on my own.
W&S: How long have you been a makeup artist and how did you get your start in the industry?
Ms.Aleen: Its just been over a year, and I started on a very small scale, trying and testing on my family members. They enjoyed being pampered and I enjoyed pampering. In hindsight, it worked out well.
W&S: What do you love most about make up?
Ms.Aleen: Makeup is so much fun to play and experiment with. I love how many colors, combinations and textures there are. And who wouldn’t want to experiment with their look and different colors? One day you are Maleficent and the other you are Harley Quinn. All it takes is your imagination and you can use it to do lots of amazing stuff.
W&S: If you weren’t a makeup artist, what else would you do?
Ms.Aleen: Definitely become fashion designer, given my love for clothes, dressing up and being obsessed with reading fashion catalogs.
W&S: A website or blog you often visit, or a magazine you swear by?
Ms.Aleen: Harper’s bazaar – its an American fashion magazine.
W&S: How would you describe your signature look and what is it about your style that sets you apart from other makeup artists?
Ms.Aleen: My signature look is pretty simple. Winged liner, mascara, some peachy or pink lipstick.
W&S: Did you have any formal makeup training?
W&S: What is your daily routine as a freelance makeup artist?
Ms.Aleen: Well, I wake up early-ish(thanks to my dog), view my makeup blog and then head towards breakfast. During the day time I usually read on-line articles on makeup and tend to follow up by viewing Youtube videos on the same. If I am motivated enough, I will most likely set up my dressing table and practice a certain makeup style just for the heck of it. Its good for the mind and keeps me sufficiently occupied. My evenings are usually fun TV sessions with my husband. We watch a lot of shows together and just chill.
W&S: Summer is here and we know the challenges women have to face to make their make up last longer, what would you advice?
Ms.Aleen:I would suggest everyone to use oil-free foundations and stick to SPF. Set the makeup with a translucent powder or makeup setting sprays. And try to use waterproof eyeliner and mascara.
W&S: Today’s woman is busier than ever. What is the easiest/quickest way to turn a day/work look into something that works for night out?
Ms.Aleen: Well if I had to turn my day look into night I would apply bronzer on the hollows of my cheek, apply a bright lipstick and some highlighter on the high points of my face and I’m good to go.
W&S: What three makeup item should no woman leave home without?
Ms.Aleen: Mascara, lipstick , concealer.
W&S: How important is it today to diversify, to work with multiple clients, or do you work solely for yourself?
Ms.Aleen: Diversity in today’s world has become essential. If you think you are good at something, you should pursue it. Sometimes people shy away from their true-calling and often pursue a lifestyle for the sake of it. However, in my opinion, keeping your options open and diversifying is key in achieving your goal. The more you test, the faster you learn about yourself.
W&S: What brushes do you work with?
Ms.Aleen: Real technique and Mac
W&S: Your favorite song of all time?
Ms.Aleen: Head is a Jungle by Emma Louise
W&S: Your favorite movie of all time?
Ms.Aleen: The Other Woman. Its hilarious
W&S: Photographers that you like to work with?
Ms.Aleen: Its my dream to work with Sebastian Kim. His work can be found in Harper’s Bazaar, muse and many others.
W&S: What’s your take on selfies?
Ms.Aleen: I have never been into selfies but sometimes I have to take them for by blog.
W&S: What do you think is vastly overrated?
Ms.Aleen: The city of Bangkok.
W&S: If we took a peek in your makeup kit what would we see?
Ms.Aleen: A lot of stuff, especially a concealer, mascara, lipstick and setting powder. My kit is incomplete without these essentials.
W&S: How do you keep up with all the new trends and styles? How do you incorporate them into your makeup repertoire?
Ms.Aleen: Its pretty overwhelming, because trends change in a blink of an eye. So to know what’s ‘hot’ and what’s not I follow online fashion, beauty magazines, Youtube tutorials and makeup blogs. They have got almost everything one needs to know about styling trends, fashion and makeup.
W&S: What is that one thing you wish you had designed?
Ms.Aleen: I designed my wedding dress so no regrets on this front.
W&S: How often do you clean your makeup tools such as brushes and combs? How does it affect the wear and tear of your tools and how do you feel about the associated expense?
Ms.Aleen: Cleaning your makeup brushes is actually a really important process you shouldn’t skip for the sake of your skin. And I wash them at least once a week. In order to prolong the life of the brushes, we need to take care of them and it really depends on how you are storing and/or cleaning them.
W&S: Any particular assignment you would have wanted to take up?
Ms.Aleen: Not one that I can think of to be honest.
W&S: What have you learned from your journey?
Ms.Aleen: Life isn’t perfect; nor do always get what you want. Regardless, pursuing your passion to the extent that it becomes the thing you enjoy the most is the type of happiness one ought to experience. Put simply, you only live once, might as well make the most of it.
W&S: Where do you see yourself five years from now?
Ms.Aleen: I believe its more important to focus on making the present count than spending too much time fretting about the future. Making my mark now will most likely determine my future.
W&S: Tell us about your upcoming projects/work?
Ms.Aleen: Upcoming work includes learning many more makeup techniques and showing my followers the best way to master them. The great thing about makeup is that you can be creative and your upcoming work is always spontaneous and can be anything which people don’t usually do. With regards to projects, I hope that I establish myself to the point where I run a cosy salon. Fingers crossed!
W&S: Final words of inspiration for upcoming talent?
Ms.Aleen: Like I’ve been saying, pursue your passion and don’t let random indicators deflect your talent. Never shy away from what you fear. Practice makes perfect so if you think you are good at a particular thing, don’t’ think twice, just go for it!
