Surprise! Surprise! It’s Your Birthday!

Birthdays are supposed to be days that we can assume to be better than other days..we can be selfish and claim that day as it’s the only day in an entire year which is about us.. why not?!

But what about all those who plan surprises for you? So I want to write to your dear ones to talk about this a bit and express a bit of concern over the ‘planned’ surprise.
I can’t help but think how it all takes place. A birthday is supposed to be a day where when you open your eyes you feel don’t want to end up going to the bathroom to wash your face and brush your teeth thinking that yeah once you freshen up and go to the kitchen to prepare breakfast for everyone (that is still your job even on birthdays..what happened to good old breakfast in bed…hmmm) someone might just remember and make your day by wishing you and asking how you’d like to spend the day or maybe have something reallyyyyy exciting planned for the day (which does not include a trip to the grocery store lolll). Maybe it would be nice to think that once a year it can be about you. Once a year it would be nice to not have you wait the entire day only to be wished after dinner with a cake and a present (as that is what commonly happens in our society). That doesn’t leave much of a surprise as that is very much expected 😛

Have you all ever thought about ways of actually making someone’s birthday special for them. I know its a debate whether birthdays should be celebrated or not but I for one don’t believe in cutting the cake but a nice fun day is not a bad idea at all. After all, like I said, that is the only day in an entire year which CAN be about us.

So let’s take a look at a few ideas that might just make someone’s day. (You don’t have to agree with me of course) but hey! What’s the harm in trying? 🙂

  1. Make their day by wishing them first thing in the morning (why wait till evening)
  2. Stick a birthday message on their bathroom mirror. (Trust me you can’t beat that)
  3. Serve them a breakfast with a little cupcake and a candle on top. Pancakes with a little candle could work too.
  4. Ask them what they would like to do or better yet come up with a list of 4 to 5 things and ask them to pick what they would want to do.
  5. If you don’t believe in all this then try giving them a day off from their regular chores and let them relax.
  6. Get them an appointment at a Spa (don’t wait till evening even for that, it’s always nice to get done with spa in the morning so you feel refreshed throughout the day)
  7. Take them for an adventure (could be a sport too) that they like.
  8. Take them on a shopping spree.
  9. Take note of what they’ve been wanting to buy for some time and fulfill their wish by getting them that.
  10. Plan an awesome party. You can have a chocolate party, dance party, FIFA party, makeup party, dress up party, movie party, trek party (which would include a trek and a little birthday party up the hills), superhero party…be creative..think what your birthday person would like the most.
  11. Plan a roadtrip. Celebrate the birthday after reaching one of the destinations.
  12. Gather friends and family for an old school type of surprise where you all gather up, turn off the lights and then scream “Surprise” once they enter the house.
  13. If you are big on spending time with each other then plan a day together and do things that make you both happy.
  14. If you can sing and play any kind of instrument, then make good use of it (add a few dance moves to brighten up their day).
  15. Take them to a concert, play, movie, match…whatever the preference.
  16. Plan a fun sleepover with friends.
  17. Find out where Karaoke takes place in your city. That is always fun and could follow a great dinner somewhere.
  18. Get some friends and play some fun board games if you are not much into celebration.
  19. Or go all out and throw them a big birthday bash. Well, why not!
  20. Bring back the postal joy by posting them a card. Nothing beats that even today.
  21. Do something unexpected and be the reason behind that huge smile on their face.

I have kept this post simple and tried to list down things that are pretty doable… if you have any fun ideas, feel free to share them in the comment box below. I’d love to hear from you.

In my family August, September, October, November and December are total birthday months. Lots of naturally there is a different way of wishing each one.

Happy Wednesday people! Weekend starts in UAE tomorrow. Enjoy and relax!
Laughter is truly the best thing in life.

5 Face Masks that work!

Hi everyone! Thank you so much for your interest in my IG story about homemade face masks that actually work. I have received some very nice messages over the last two days from you lovely people showing your interest and eagerness in this post. So without further adieu let me share the tried and tested face masks based on ingredients right out of your pantry. These are very simple, these work for me so I’m hoping they’d work for you too. For starters I have a combination skin, also let me tell you that these masks are known to work on all skin types. You can give it a go and see if it’s right for you.

Lemon & Honey Mask

Lemon is known as a bleaching agent. It helps with areas that get affected by the harmful rays of the sun giving you an uninvited tan. It also works wonders on the dark areas on your face which could be the upper part of your lip or maybe something on the cheeks. (Not for dark circles- don’t try it there because I haven’t :P)
Add a tablespoon of honey into lemon, mix well of course and massage gently over your face targeting the dark areas (if any). This one can be left on overnight as well. (I’m not brave enough to do it as it contains honey and could ruin my pillow-cases or invite ants straight upto my face to have a little party of their own 😀 ).
Leave it on for a while. Rinse off. This can be done once a week.

Pigmentation is a real pain for many of us no matter what our skin colour. It could happen due to many reasons, inflammation, aging and sun-exposure being on top.  This mask is good for pigmented areas.

Banana Mask

They say who needs botox when you have a banana? Lol yesss! You can use a banana as an all-natural, homemade mask that moisturizes your skin and leaves it looking and feeling softer. Mash up a medium-sized ripe banana into a smooth paste, then gently apply it to your face and neck. Let it set for 10 to 20 minutes, then rinse it off with cold water. If you have acne then you can take 1/4 cup plain yogurt, 2 tablespoons honey and 1 medium banana. Mix it up into a paste and apply it on your face for 20 to 25 minutes.

Both these masks are very good for your skin. Do try them.

Oatmeal & Tomato Juice

Tomato is enriched with natural goodness and it works really well for skin. People who eat raw tomatoes or use them in their salads more know what I’m saying.

Adding some oatmeal to a tomato juice would give you a skin lightening mask that helps with pigmentation and leaves your skin feeling unbelievably fresh. You can add some honey to it if you want.

Cucumber Mask

Cucumbers feel so good on skin that its unreal. Its cool effect works really (and I mean really) well on pimples. It’s very simple to use. Grate or puree a cucumber and apply it directly to your face. If you have pimples do it regularly and you will see a visible difference.

For exfoliation – add  some yogurt to the grated cucumber and apply.

For more younger looking skin you can add honey or aloevera to cucumber puree and apply.

Gram Flour Mask

Gram Flour masks work really well for skin. I posted a few masks earlier as well. There are different ways to use gram flour and make quick masks at home. If you want to take a look at those, click here.

Moving on take 1 teaspoon of gram flour, 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder and mix it well with curd (form a paste). Apply this mask for 20 minutes. Rinse off.
If you have been out in the sun a lot lately or your skin needs a bit of a healthy boost, try this.

Hope these work for you. Do try and share your experience with me.

Much Love!

Weekend Chit Chat

Hi my lovelies! Yet another weekend, yet another Friday. I said bye to my hubby last night who traveled  back to Pakistan. The days become awfully long here in UAE with kids and chores and its nice to have him here so we can do stuff together with the kids. Taking them out becomes much easier and more fun when they have their Dad with them. Anyway since he was leaving, there was something that I wanted to do for him. His birthday falls on the 29th of July and knowing he wouldn’t be here with us I tried to throw him a little surprise also to make the kids know and feel that they were part of his b-day this year. So baked a layered chocolate cake, put up fairy lights (i’m obsessed with these things) got the candles ready, bought his b’day present in under 15 minutes (boy! I got lucky!) and packed everything without him knowing and you’ll never guess where. Haha! Packed his presents in the washroom, imagine that!

Thank God he loved everything. Also that reminds me that there are some great deals at Springfield so you might wanna check those out. I loved their shirts, hats and caps. Super nice!

This time of the year in UAE means you will be spending a good amount of time at the malls, or maybe at the beaches during the evenings. Plan your evenings. Make some sandwiches at home, get a nice bottle of fresh lemonade and get your flip flops. Make the most of it.

The malls have some great deals with Dubai Summer Surprises in full swing. Best time to grab what you’ve been wanting to get for so long.

This week also brought the news of Chester Bennington leaving the world on a very sad note. May his soul rest in peace. As much as i’d hoped this year to be better than the last..this year has been a year of heartbreak so far. I’m not really in high spirits this weekend so bear with me.

So will be posting some DIY skincare this week along with a little about hair extensions.

Stay Tuned!
