Hassle free cooking anyone?

WARNING: This post could have you running to your nearest store.

Are you one of those people (like me and my husband) who crave fried food on a very regular basis (yesssss *hides face* but still eats – guilty).  This smiling duo right below these words that you are reading is us! P.S. I tried to keep the picture size small 😀

Are you one of those people who open the fridge, looking for something yummy to eat and end up taking something out of the freezer and deep frying it (yikes). ( What can I say, such is life!) Have you ever dreamt of enjoying your plate of fries or samosas without the fear of gaining 30 kgs once you are done? (could happen to any of us! )

Then this post is definitely for you. NO it’s not sponsored..it comes straight from the heart, after using the actify for two whole years and still loving it. (Please don’t associate my weight with the review as I do cheat sometimes and go for deep frying :P) but anyhow! I want to give you a few reasons to make the actifry your new best friend.

My husband and I befriended the Tefal Actifry almost two years ago with the idea of making cooking a little easier for both us (which means he wouldn’t mind throwing in the nuggets or meatballs if he’s in the mood :P). Quiet frankly I wasn’t too sure in the beginning and it was being used solely for making nuggets in the morning while getting my daughter ready for school. It takes precisely 13 minutes to have them ready without having to stand there, watching the stove as well as stirring so yess it saves you all that trouble while you get something else done.

I thought I’d give you some good enough reasons to consider making this part of your kitchen (if you haven’t already).

Let’s begin!

1. It’s a sleek machine that takes up a nice corner in your kitchen (while adding to the beauty of it).
2. It requires 1 tsp of oil (you heard me right) to get one big plate of fries ready in no time.

3. It is super easy to clean. All you have to do is take out the pan and wash it. It’s dishwasher safe as well.

4. It saves you the trouble of standing next to it and watching it like a hawk. It has an in built buzzer which goes off when your food is ready to be served.

5. You won’t have to worry about anything getting burnt as the paddle constantly keeps moving.

Some of the things you can make in the actifry

  1. Croutons
  2. French fries
  3. Nuggets
  4. Chicken Wings
  5. Samosa
  6. Corn
  7. Stir-fried veggies
  8. Meat Balls (without the paddle preferably)
  9. Croquettes
  10. Roasted Brocolli
  11. Glazed Apples
  12. Roasted Dry fruit
  13. Omlette
  14. Chick Peas
  15. Baked Beans
  16. Sausages
  17. Buffalo Chips
  18. Fried Chicken (remember it is not deep fried so the taste and feel of it will be a little different)
  19. Mozzarella cheese sticks
  20. Soy and pepper fried peas …… to name a few. I’m sure there are many other ways it can be used which i’m unaware of. I would love to try to make a simple pizza in it, without the paddle of course, and see how that turns out. Something tells me it would be great and the crust would be on the crispy side.

In the coming weeks, i’ll try to bring you more that your actifry can do. Follow me on Instagram: sonyalee1 where i’ll post more from the world of actifry in the Insta stories.

So there you go! Your actifry is the answer to all your fried food cravings. I know people who are fitness conscious and swear by it!

Let me know what you think. If you have any questions, let me know and i’ll try to answer right away. If there is something that would be beyond my knowledge then you can take the help of good old google.

Thanks for reading!

Much love! xo

Food Talk – Oreo Brownies

Who doesn’t love Oreo? I mean come on! You have to be a crazy person to not love Oreo. I may not be huge fan of Oreo cookies itself but boy! The kind of things you make with these yummy cookies is what intrigues me. I first fell in love with the ultimate oreo shake when I had it at Rendezvous Islamabad. It tasted soooo amazing!!! I used to drag my sister and friends with me there just to have the oreo shake. Nope! not ashamed at all! 😉 Now my kids love Oreo shake as much as I do. But anyway enough about the shake lol.
Moving on I came across this recipe sometime back and it is very very nice, I think you might just love it as much as i did. Let me give you a little history about my love for brownies. My Dad makes some really kick-ass  brownies and he used to make them every week. Which means that there was always something to look forward to each week, because there is nothing like fresh right out of the oven brownies. He pampered me so much before I got married, now I don’t get to spend so much time with him as I’m in a different country altogether but those days are as fresh as ever in my memory. People back in my country celebrated Father’s day on the 18th of June and it falls on the 21st here in UAE. Let your old man feel special because he IS very special! Cherish the time you have with your parents as that time never comes back.

Okay I’m clearly getting a little emotional so let’s move onto this Oreo version of the brownie. Get your notepads and note down what all you will need

Oreo cookies as required (set aside for later use)
Unsweetened chocolate 340grams
Unsalted butter 225grams
Melt the two together in microwave. Now add the following
Large eggs 6
Sugar 3 cups
All purpose flour 1 cup (sifted)
Vanilla Extract 2 Tbsp
Vinegar 1/2 teaspoon
Fold all the ingredients in gently using a spatula.

Now that you have this ready it would be a good idea to get your oven running so it’s nice and warm for baking. It has to be set at 180 degree celsius.

Now take a pan, grease it well, pour half of the brownie mixture over it and spread evenly. Now comes the fun part, take Oreo cookies and lay them over it. Add more brownie mixture and another layer of Oreo cookies but this time cut into halves.
It’s time for your pan to take its place inside the oven, bake for 28 to 30 minutes. Insert a toothpick and if it comes out clean, it means that your brownies are ready to be served/gobbled upon (Ahhh yes!)

Serve your brownie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream if you want. I like mine with a beautiful cup of tea. Your kids are going to kiss your hands and give you unlimited hugs and kisses for this one.

Enjoy yourselves!

Food Talk- Chicken Cheese Balls

Chicken cheese balls are always a sure winner at high teas and iftar tables. Now that we have reached the last week of Ramadan, it’s time for you to invite people that you haven’t yet given a taste of your delectable homechef skills. One of those scrumptious food items should be the chicken cheese balls. Trust me you can never go wrong with these. They will be a sure hit with kids and elders alike. And the best part is that they are super duper easy to make. So get hold of your notepads and jot down the ingredients

Here is what you’ll need:

Chicken mince 1/2 kg
Dried parsley 1tsp
Garlic powder 1tsp
Onion powder 1 tbsp
Salt to taste
Black pepper powder 1/4 tsp
Ginger garlic paste 2 tsp
Butter 3 tbsp
Egg 1

Mix all of the above and set aside.

Now let’s take a look at what goes inside, this is what you’ll need for the filling
Mozzarella cheese – grated or cut into cubes
Pinch of black pepper powder

Outer coating:
All purpose flour 1 cup
Egg white 3
Bread crumbs 1 cup

Now that your chicken mince is ready and your cheese is grated (or cut into cubes) its time to make your chicken cheese balls. Take a small amount of chicken mince in your hands, flatten it and put a little amount of mozzarella cheese in the center, now roll it over the cheese and make small balls. Now one by one start dipping the balls into flour, egg, then flour, egg again and finally give it a good coating with crumbs.
Once you are done with this process you either fry them immediately or keep them in the freezer for a bit before frying (recommended). That way chicken balls won’t break while frying.
Of course these have to be deep fried till golden brown and served hot.
Serve them with ketchup or any other dip of choice.

You can make these balls and freeze them for later use. Just take a few out, deep fry till golden brown and you are good to go. These yummy things taste heavenly and are a treat for your tase buds. Remember me when you make these 🙂

Vegetarians can replace chicken with potatoes and make potato cheese balls which are as delicious as this. My kids love potatoes so its a win win for me 🙂

Weekend Chit Chat

Hey everyone! Hope Ramadan is going well for you all. I have not really been MIA just crazy busy with my little ones and home. Gosh we don’t realize how much of an effort goes into our days and nights. It’s only when you get time to be by yourself and really breath, is when you get to ponder over the fact that it’s a lot of work. So all the people out there, men or women, who take out so much of their time to be with their families and do anything and everything to make them happy, Hats off to US! 🙂 I do however try to stay active on Instagram so that I stay connected with you all. For those of you who are not on my Instagram can follow me, my ID is  sonyalee1. Let’s connect! 🙂

For those of you who don’t know yet, the official page for Wings & Strokes is www.facebook.com/wingsandstrokes. You can find Wings and Strokes on Twitter, Tumblr, Instagram and YouTube.

Moving on let’s talk about the weekend. Ramadan has us all busy here, but I do have to point out that it relieves us of the daily task of preparing lunch for the family. I still have to prepare something for the kids of course.

This weekend has been extremely lazy, I fell very sick and that drained me of the much needed energy. Still managed to take the kids out for a bit, they deserve a break as much as we adults do. Found some really neat things for the house (i’m obsessed with my home and home decor) you can easily call me The Desperate Housewife, most of my friends call me that. Watched a great movie with my kiddies, it’s not something new but definitely worth it. It’s called Game Plan. It’s super cute and my older one loved it. The Rock really does justice to his character and I adorrrrrrred him in this one. Parenting is indeed the most beautiful thing on earth. I feel fortunate to have been blessed with wonderful children who make my world beautiful and my life worth living. I hope and pray that I can help them become worthy people as they grow up.

Also I wanted to tell you that I am starting a new section in the blog talking about everything related to ‘Home‘. Really excited about that. I spend most of my time at home with my children. I have been working from home as well. As this is the place where I spend most of my time, I find myself doing something or the other throughout the day. This is something I’m very passionate about so expect a lot of home related posts. (Like seriously)

Big question for you all. I know most of you open W&S on your phones but I wonder if you have had the chance to open it on your desktops or laptops? Do try it once, and let me know what you think of the layout of the blog. I think you might just like it more, I prefer to open it on laptop (self obsession, yesss).  So the weekend ends here in UAE tomorrow and begins in most parts of the world. What are your plans? I plan to lose weight lol but then again that’s what I plan everyday 😉

Some of my friends want me to put my name on the posts which I never do as I didn’t really want this to be about me but I feel that it’s good to connect, it’s “time” to connect! I have been blogging for two years now, Wings & Strokes is two years old, I have neatly kept my name out of it for this long and spoken about people and things that inspire me. Even though I don’t post regularly these days but I promise to fix that so we get to know each other more. Thank you for visiting, reading and staying for a bit. Means the world to me!

Enjoy the weekend!
