Recipe: Shawarma

Hey everyone! Our food expert has something special for you all today. Something that is loved very much in Middle East and parts of South Asia. Yes! She is bringing you the classic shawarma.

(Please note that all her recipes are tried and tested so you can be sure of the taste)

Let’s get started  🙂

You will need:

Chicken 1 kg boneless
Salt: 1 tsp
Red chilli powder: 1tsp
Red chilli flakes: 1/2 tsp
Black pepper: 1/4 tsp
White vinegar: 2 tsp
Oil: 1/2 tsp

Mix all ingredients well with chicken (cut into cubes) and set aside for 30 minutes for all the flavors to blend in well. Then take a wok, fry the chicken till its nice and tender.

While your chicken is soaking up the flavors, its best to get your salad ready for filling, here is what you will need:

Cucumber: 1
Orange carrot: 1
Vinegar for dipping.
Cut the cucumber n carrot into thin slices and soak in vinegar for a while.

Now for the mayo sauce:
Egg: 1 large
Garlic clove: 1 piece
Green chilli: 1
White vinegar: 1/2 tsp
Black pepper: 1/4 tsp
Chinese salt: 1/4 tsp
Salt: 1/4 tsp
Sugar: 1/4 tsp
Oil : 1 cup

Put all ingredients into a blender and blend well. When the ingredients form a thick paste, slowly add in the oil making sure that it helps the mixture get thick and fluffy. Turn off the blender, your paste is now ready for the shawarma.

Now there are two ways of serving this classic, much loved shawarma. Take pita bread and spread the paste evenly over it. Now mix the chicken with vinegar-dipped cucumber and carrots and roll it all up nicely. Make sure you have butter paper with you to wrap it up before you can enjoy it.

Another way of eating it is in the form of a shawarma platter. Take chicken, cucumber, carrots and mix them all well. Take a dish and lay out the chicken along with Pita bread cut into halves. Serve the paste with it to bring out the flavors. For those of you who enjoy the flavor of garlic can add a bit more to the paste and please your taste buds.

Hope you guys like it!

Indian Fest @ Al Qasba

Yet another day, yet another list of chores to be taken care of. But of course we must take out time to live the life that we all work so hard for. Speaking of which I made my way to the Indian Fest at Al Qasba last night. The weather is beautiful these days and so was the decor. Warm and inviting! Just the kind of thing you need after a long day.

The trees adorn the traditional yellow, orange and, red drapes. Handcrafted dolls and umbrellas hang from the trees. There are crafts to make, food to eat, performances to enjoy, beautiful bangles at the stalls and of course henna to adorn your hands.

The handicrafts stall will surely win you over and you won’t leave till you buy a piece for your house.

The music platform will keep you entertained throughout the evening. Bright and vibrant colors of Rangoli design competition is something to watch while you are there.

Rajasthan puppetry is a unique experience in itself and of course who can deny the exquisite flavors of the Indian cuisine.

Yesterday was the first day, but don’t worry you have till the 19th of November to enjoy the Indian Fest. Make your way down to Qasba everyone!
Al Qasba has opened some new cafe’s adding to the whole experience which I’m dying to try. Plus I was extremely happy to see the eye of the Emirates being installed again.

Qasba looked incomplete without it. The whole Al Qasba experience just got better with the addition of the dancing fountains right below the Eye of the Emirates which I was pleasantly surprised to see. After the Mall of Dubai this is where you will find the dancing fountains!

So I hope that I have given you enough reasons to make your way to Al Qasba tonight. Have a great time!

Let’s talk about food! ~ Texas Road House

Yo Foodies! If you come to Dubai for vacations and don’t try the mouthwatering, lip-smacking, scrumptious food from The Texas Road House then you have wasted your money and not given your taste buds the tantalizing treat that they rightly deserve.
Let me walk you through my experience, It was a day at the Dubai Mall with my two beautiful kids, shopping, scanning the shops, looking for great deals, well don’t we always…but just as we were walking past a few restaurants, we couldn’t ignore this amazing whiff of food that was so inviting that we stopped right there to find out where it was coming from…so yes ladies and gentlemen, it was none other than the Texas Road House. We usually look at the menu before entering a restaurant to know if we’d be interested in eating there but that day we walked straight in 😉

The décor is definitely inviting, makes you feel like a cowboy/cowgirl really, ready to take the bull by its horns 😉 Different cuts of unbelievably beautiful raw steaks are on display. That of course is just the beginning of your experience. The music is well suited to the name and ambience.

Coming to the food, this place has a lot to offer, You are served a bucket of fresh peanuts while you decide what you want to eat followed by hot buns with butter (trust me you can’t resist them either). They offer a variety of appetizers, soups, salads, hand-cut steaks, ribs, country diners, seafood, burgers and sandwiches, drinks, sides, desserts and of course kids meals. What’s not to love!

Everything was great, so delicious. Steaks are exactly what you would expect, good meat, cooked perfectly, juicy, good sides, mash served with a gravy, plenty of it and to top it off the waiters, every 15 mins, do a line dance !!! Soft drinks refilled free of charge.  Must visit if you are a meat lover!

I would give this place 10/10
