Coffee Break – Big Ideas, Tiny Spaces

I love decorating and redecorating. I love homes and everything about them. Doesn’t matter if they are big or’s about how warm and inviting any space is. It’s about the way heart and soul has been put into it. I was just sipping on my coffee when I came across this. It’s a little flat, very small infact but caters to all your needs. Also it is situated in a very expensive neighbourhood. This one is not all that warm and inviting for me, not my taste at all but could be a good home if either you are single or just a couple.
Take a look.

This one is so creatively done and gives you such a great open feeling. It allows so much light into your house. It looks beautiful and clean while giving you everything that you could possibly need in a small house of your own.

This one speaks for itself. If this was my house, I wouldn’t place the shelf behind the sofa but everything else is beautiful or maybe instead of the ottoman I would’ve gotten a sectional sofa with storage. That would’ve given so much more space and open feel to the living room. Check it out.

ANNNNNNDDDDD this one’s worth a standing ovation. So so cool!
Get your fresh cup of tea/coffee ready and come back to it.
School Bus converted to incredible off-grid home. This one you have to see!

This guy’s a genius. He calls it the lego-style apartment and for obvious reasons. I only wish his shower was not so open, the rest is pure genius.

As they say, there is no place like home.

Weekend Chit Chat and flu remedies

Hey everyone! Hope you all are having a fantastic October. I personally love this month and everything about it. It brings with it Autumn that I have always been madly in love with and also it brings tons of reasons to celebrate little joys of life. Starting with my daughters birthday, then 3 more birthdays in the family, our anniversary and of course Halloween….Boo! October is just beautiful!!!

Did I mention that October is also my birthday month and even though I never really celebrate the day itself but I like to think that once a year it can be about me and what I want to do for that one day. So BIG thanks to all those who wished me and made me feel all special in their own way. You guys are awesome!!!

I wonder how your weekend has been but I have been taking care of my little ones who are down with fever and flu. Its the changing weather in UAE I guess that’s making everyone sick these days. If your family has been hit by the seasonal illness just know that colds and flus are viral infections, so antibiotics won’t help when it comes to clearing up an infection. So you have to figure that part out first.

Remember that a fever is the body’s way of fighting off an infection.  Keep your child hydrated to help reduce cold and flu symptoms and make them feel better. Fevers can result in dehydration. Your child may not feel as thirsty as they normally would, and they may be uncomfortable when drinking, so it’s important to encourage them to drink plenty of fluids. Mine refused to eat but kept taking fluids thankfully.

If your child is over 1 year old, try giving honey for a cough instead of medication. You may also want to try chicken soup..clear chicken soup that is, works wonders. Whether its you or your child, if your body is telling you to lie down, then don’t think twice. Getting lots of rest is the key to getting better when you have fever or flu. Cardamom and honey mixed together or ginger and honey or black pepper and honey..These three combos are great for terrible cough and congestion so you might wanna try these before you lose all hope and rush to the hospital. But then again its a matter of choice, I try to treat the problem at home before I even think of going to the hospitals.

Anyway coming back to the weekend, please make the weekend about your loved ones. When you go out,  put the phone away. There is nothing worse than sitting down for a meal and having no conversation at all. Everything in the world can wait for those 30 minutes in a day where you make your better halves or kids feel like you are there. These little things show how much a person means to you. So be careful. Make a little bit of effort to forget your phone and social media for a while and be fully present in that moment before it passes you by.

Much love,

Weekend Chit Chat

Hi my lovelies! Yet another weekend, yet another Friday. I said bye to my hubby last night who traveled  back to Pakistan. The days become awfully long here in UAE with kids and chores and its nice to have him here so we can do stuff together with the kids. Taking them out becomes much easier and more fun when they have their Dad with them. Anyway since he was leaving, there was something that I wanted to do for him. His birthday falls on the 29th of July and knowing he wouldn’t be here with us I tried to throw him a little surprise also to make the kids know and feel that they were part of his b-day this year. So baked a layered chocolate cake, put up fairy lights (i’m obsessed with these things) got the candles ready, bought his b’day present in under 15 minutes (boy! I got lucky!) and packed everything without him knowing and you’ll never guess where. Haha! Packed his presents in the washroom, imagine that!

Thank God he loved everything. Also that reminds me that there are some great deals at Springfield so you might wanna check those out. I loved their shirts, hats and caps. Super nice!

This time of the year in UAE means you will be spending a good amount of time at the malls, or maybe at the beaches during the evenings. Plan your evenings. Make some sandwiches at home, get a nice bottle of fresh lemonade and get your flip flops. Make the most of it.

The malls have some great deals with Dubai Summer Surprises in full swing. Best time to grab what you’ve been wanting to get for so long.

This week also brought the news of Chester Bennington leaving the world on a very sad note. May his soul rest in peace. As much as i’d hoped this year to be better than the last..this year has been a year of heartbreak so far. I’m not really in high spirits this weekend so bear with me.

So will be posting some DIY skincare this week along with a little about hair extensions.

Stay Tuned!

Weekend Chit Chat

Hey everyone! Hope Ramadan is going well for you all. I have not really been MIA just crazy busy with my little ones and home. Gosh we don’t realize how much of an effort goes into our days and nights. It’s only when you get time to be by yourself and really breath, is when you get to ponder over the fact that it’s a lot of work. So all the people out there, men or women, who take out so much of their time to be with their families and do anything and everything to make them happy, Hats off to US! 🙂 I do however try to stay active on Instagram so that I stay connected with you all. For those of you who are not on my Instagram can follow me, my ID is  sonyalee1. Let’s connect! 🙂

For those of you who don’t know yet, the official page for Wings & Strokes is You can find Wings and Strokes on Twitter, Tumblr, Instagram and YouTube.

Moving on let’s talk about the weekend. Ramadan has us all busy here, but I do have to point out that it relieves us of the daily task of preparing lunch for the family. I still have to prepare something for the kids of course.

This weekend has been extremely lazy, I fell very sick and that drained me of the much needed energy. Still managed to take the kids out for a bit, they deserve a break as much as we adults do. Found some really neat things for the house (i’m obsessed with my home and home decor) you can easily call me The Desperate Housewife, most of my friends call me that. Watched a great movie with my kiddies, it’s not something new but definitely worth it. It’s called Game Plan. It’s super cute and my older one loved it. The Rock really does justice to his character and I adorrrrrrred him in this one. Parenting is indeed the most beautiful thing on earth. I feel fortunate to have been blessed with wonderful children who make my world beautiful and my life worth living. I hope and pray that I can help them become worthy people as they grow up.

Also I wanted to tell you that I am starting a new section in the blog talking about everything related to ‘Home‘. Really excited about that. I spend most of my time at home with my children. I have been working from home as well. As this is the place where I spend most of my time, I find myself doing something or the other throughout the day. This is something I’m very passionate about so expect a lot of home related posts. (Like seriously)

Big question for you all. I know most of you open W&S on your phones but I wonder if you have had the chance to open it on your desktops or laptops? Do try it once, and let me know what you think of the layout of the blog. I think you might just like it more, I prefer to open it on laptop (self obsession, yesss).  So the weekend ends here in UAE tomorrow and begins in most parts of the world. What are your plans? I plan to lose weight lol but then again that’s what I plan everyday 😉

Some of my friends want me to put my name on the posts which I never do as I didn’t really want this to be about me but I feel that it’s good to connect, it’s “time” to connect! I have been blogging for two years now, Wings & Strokes is two years old, I have neatly kept my name out of it for this long and spoken about people and things that inspire me. Even though I don’t post regularly these days but I promise to fix that so we get to know each other more. Thank you for visiting, reading and staying for a bit. Means the world to me!

Enjoy the weekend!

Ramadan Chit Chat

Ramadan is here and I’m really excited this year. I wasn’t able to fast last year as I was expecting my little boy but this year I’m ready to embrace the month with all its blessings and goodness. Somehow just knowing that satan won’t be getting in the way for 30 days really get’s you going, or at least that makes me feel great. On other days we conveniently blame him for everything that we don’t do right, myself included. So let’s make the most of it. Let’s pray, learn to be more humble, practice patience, abstinence and self-restraint. It’s also seen as a way to spiritually and physically detoxify by kicking impulses like caffeine, smoking and snacking (mostly unnecessarily in my case, that explains my weight). It is a beautiful time to detach from worldly pleasures, and focus on our prayers.

Ramadan has started,of course, here in UAE and it was the second day today. I’m getting more time to really focus on my prayers this year but at the same time i’m also trying to ignore the fact that i’m the only one in the house fasting here as my hubby wubby is away. My little ones do keep me super duper busy as always but I feel like i could use some company 😛 so maybe it would be nice if he could return soon. The first day was nice as i didn’t have to prepare iftar as I got invited over at our relatives, second day was more hectic with kids being extra hyper and me fasting and not able to concentrate on anything (i’m sure many of you are feeling the same).

Also did i mention that my beloved fridge decided to ditch me a couple of days back which means that I have no fridge these days and it’s just adding to my misery here as I have no place to keep my food TA-DA!

So anyway wish you all tons of blessings, joy, peace and love this month. May you enjoy your iftar and suhoor as much as you enjoy praying and connecting or reconnecting with Almighty. May this month bring you everything that your heart desires and everything that is meant for you.

Happy Ramadan folks! Enjoy the pakoras! 🙂
